P is For Porch

A conversation, part real and part imagined.
Me: I went to The Porch at Christie’s. They did a gut renovation of the old Chef’s Table and it’s amazing.
Friend: Chef’s Table? That place we went for coffee?
Me: There are babies there now.
F: At Chef’s Table??
Me: Yes. It’s The Porch at Christie’s now.
F: (silent reflection)
Me: They renovated the front porch and you can sit out there. It’s beautiful inside.

The Porch @ Christie’s is pretty close to 4 schools: Staples High, Bedford Middle, and Coleytown Middle and Elementary School.
Which makes it perfect for parents who want “PorchAbles.”
The Cross Highway eatery has introduced a new item: school lunches that parents can order ahead to pick up, be delivered, or enjoyed in person at the Porch.

After the pandemic shut down a local nonprofit, organizers found an opportunity to fill a need for many who felt shut out.
The Porch at Christie's in Westport has been providing job opportunities to more than 12 adults with disabilities. Another six work at the Sweet P Bakery in Norwalk, a nonprofit where many of them got their start.
New Neighbors: The Porch at Christie’s Opens Today
The Westport Local Press
Westport’s northern neighborhoods will regain their beloved country store after this morning’s opening of The Porch at Christie’s at 161 Cross Highway.
The 101 year old building has served for decades as meeting house and gastronomic locale for many far-out Westporters and herds of nearby middle and high school students. Owner Andrea and Bill Pecoriello of Westport founded The Porch not only on the basis of good food, but to provide a community space for both their customers and their beloved employees.
Everyone Onto The Porch

By Dan Woog | Westport’s newest hot spot opened its doors yesterday. And its porch. From 6:30 a.m. till dark, The Porch at Christie’s was packed.
Neighbors, contractors, middle and high school kids, folks from across town — all headed to the Cross Highway bakery/café/ice cream stand.
They loved the breakfast specials, bowls, paninis, wraps and baked goods. They hung out on the porch (of course), and played cornhole on the grass.
But that’s only part of the story.
The Porch revives a staples student staple
Inkling News
By Lilly Weisz ‘23 | The restaurant space previously home to Christie’s and Chef’s Table has offered breakfast, lunch and french fries to generations of Westporters, creating a center for community and coffee. However, new restaurant The Porch owners Andrea and Bill Pecoriello have added something that has never been seen at the building before, a wheelchair ramp.
Situated at a recently installed gap in the white fence surrounding the restaurant’s titular porch, the ramp allows wheelchair users to enter through the slamming screen door (actually a new nostalgic touch, despite feeling as if it’s been there all along).
Christie’s Porch

By Dan Woog | For nearly a century, the front porch of Christie’s Country Store helped anchor its Cross Highway neighborhood.
Christie Masiello and her nephew Don ran the farm stand/market — which opened in 1926 — for almost 7 decades. Several owners followed, serving residents, kids, contractors, and everyone in between.
Since January though — when Chef’s Table closed — the porch has been quiet.
Life returns this spring.
“The Porch at Christie’s” is the name new owners Bill and Andrea Pecoriello have chosen for the venerable space. It’s a nod to the storied past, and a welcome addition to the area.
